Alan H. Shirley
July 28, 1952 - August 05, 2017
Born on July 28, 1952, at Keyser, he is a son of Reva I. (Halterman) Shirley of Keyser and the late Marvin H. Shirley. He also was preceded in death by a brother-in-law, Robert Burns.
Mr. Shirley was a 1970 graduate of Keyser High School, was a member of the Keyser High School 1969 State Champion football team, and was inducted into the Keyser High School Athletic Hall of Fame. Alan retired from Local 568, Ironworkers Union, Cumberland, Md., was employed as an inspector with R.K. & K and also worked for 26 years as a welder supervisor with Dominion Power at the Mt. Storm Power Plant. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran of the Vietnam War and was a member of Boyce-Houser Post 41, American Legion, Keyser. He was a dedicated member of the Keyser Church of the Brethren, Lodge 662, L.O.O.M., Keyser and Davis Lodge 51, A.F. & A.M, Keyser. He was an avid WVU Mountaineer fan and enjoyed hunting.
Surviving, in addition to his mother, are his wife of 40 years, Charlene Kaye (Amtower) Shirley; a daughter, Nannette S. Redmon of Martinsburg; two grandsons, Shannon and Quincy Redmon; three brothers, Dennis M. Shirley and wife, Linda, of Derwood, Md., Donald K. "Boots" Shirley and wife, Jacqueline, of Keyser, and Mark R. Shirley and wife, Rhonda, of Lebanon, Tenn.; two sisters, Karol I. Ashenfelter and husband, Larry, of Keyser, and Sharon S. Burns of Murfreesboro, Tenn.; his mother-in-law, Marian Amtower of Mount Storm; a special niece, Lisa Wildman and husband, Scott, of Ridgeville; other numerous nieces, nephews, grand nieces and nephews and his special friends at the K & A Campground at Mount Storm Lake, who over the past 30 years, have become his second family.
Friends may call at the Smith Funeral Home, Keyser Chapel, on Wednesday, Aug. 9, 2017, from 4 to 8 p.m.
Funeral services will be conducted at the Keyser Church of the Brethren on Thursday, Aug. 10, 2017, at 11 a.m. with Pastor James "Sonny" Dodds officiating. Friends may also call at the church one hour prior to the service.
Interment will be in the Potomac Memorial Gardens, Keyser. Graveside Masonic rites will be accorded by Davis Lodge 51, A.F. & A.M.
