Alice Lee Hershiser, 70, of Cumberland, passed away Saturday, April 22, 2017, at the Western Maryland Regional Medical Center.
Born Sept. 25, 1946, in Cumberland, Mrs. Hershiser was the daughter of the late Kelly Brant and Goldie (Triplett) Brant. She was also preceded in death by three brothers, Herbert Van Fleet, Jim and George Brant; and a sister, Dorothy Cheshire.
A graduate of Fort Hill High School, Alice worked at Memorial Hospital and Devlin Manor in housekeeping. She was a member of the Bowman's Addition Fire Hall serving as an EMT, firefighter, ambulance captain, and in the ladies auxiliary. Alice enjoyed doing crafts and attended the Centenary United Methodist Church as a younger lady.
Alice is survived by her husband of 45 years, Robert H. Hershiser; and her sons, Endre Melkovics and wife, Diana, Jonathan Hershiser, and Edgar Hershiser, all of Cumberland. She also leaves behind her grandchildren, Kayla, Joshua, and Emily Melkovics, Danielle, Jonathan Taylor, and Devin Hershiser; and her great-granddaughter, Baylee Crawford. Alice is also survived by her brother, Richard Van Fleet and wife, Nancy, Cumberland; a special friend of the family, Michelle Hershiser; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Friends will be received at the Adams Family Funeral Home, P.A., 404 Decatur Street, Cumberland (www.AdamsFamilyFuneralHome.com) on Wednesday, April 26, 2017, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
A funeral service will be conducted at the funeral home on Thursday, April 27, 2017, at 10 a.m. with the Reverend Harold McClay Jr. officiating.
Interment will be in Maryland State Veterans Cemetery at Rocky Gap.
