Alvin Lee Henry, 91, Ridgeley, died Wednesday, Jan. 3, 2018 in Cumberland Health Center after contracting pneumonia.
Born Sept. 16, 1926, in Ridgeley to Florence Leona (Decker) and Holdridge Leslie Henry, he was the youngest of three children. Before he graduated from Ridgeley High School in 1944, he enlisted in the U.S. Army and served until 1947.
He married his high-school sweetheart, Nellie Louise Shannon on Feb. 2, 1947, and in 1949, the coupled welcomed a daughter.
He was retired from the Kelly-Springfield Tire Company.
Mr. Henry belonged to Gold Star Post 6452, V.F.W.
Alvin was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend who made the world a better place.
He is survived by his wife of 71 years, Nellie of the home; daughter, Donna Osborn, Springfield, Mo.; three grandchildren Jeffrey Osborn, Cabot, Ark., Will Osborn, Springfield, and Elizabeth Lewis and husband, Rodney, Nixa, Mo; four great-grandchildren, Gabrielle, Jackson, and Emma Osborn, Cabot, Ar. and Finley Lewis, Nixa, Mo.; a special niece, Twila Kenney, Fort Ashby, a special nephew, Dale Ault, Ridgeley, and numerous other nieces and nephews.
A brother, Leroy, and sister Evelyn Ault preceded him in death.
Visitation at Upchurch Funeral Home, P.A., Cumberland, on Saturday, Jan. 6, 2018, from 10 until 11:30 a.m. The service with follow at 11:30 a.m. with the Rev. Richard Jewell, officiating.
Interment will be at Hillcrest Memorial Park, where military honors will be accorded by Fort Cumberland Post 13 Honor Guard.
