Arie Evelyn (Ambrose) Wagner passed away peacefully at home on April 22, 2017.
Born Dec. 10, 1921, to George and Letha (Pirkey) Ambrose in Cumberland, Arie was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Duane Wagner.
She is survived by son, Edward Wagner, Cumberland, son, Timothy Wagner and his wife, Patricia, East Hartford, Conn.; brother, George Raymond Ambrose Sr. and his wife, Mildred, Valley Forge, Pa.; and nephew, George Raymond Ambrose Jr. and his wife, Ruth, King of Prussia, Pa.
Arie was always giving of herself. This was especially evident in her selfless devotion to her husband and sons. She was also active in her church, Trinity United Methodist Church, Cumberland, and in many community organizations including Salvation Army Women's Auxiliary, McKinley Chapter Order of Eastern Star, South Cumberland Business and Civic Association, Allegany County Historical Society, Woman's Civic Club of Cumberland, Cumberland Music and Arts Club and the YMCA Auxiliary Board.
After a very successful role as a wife and mother, Arie began an 18 year career as a hall attendant at Frostburg State University. While at the University, Arie began taking classes in History and Political Science. She enjoyed taking classes and decided to pursue a college degree. In 1995, at age 73, Arie received a Bachelor of Science degree in History. She continued to take graduate level classes and at age 77 earned a Masters Degree in Arts and Modern Humanities.

Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Avenue, Cumberland, on Sunday, April 30, 2017, from 1 to 3 p.m.
Services will be conducted at Trinity United Methodist Church, 122 Grand Avenue, Cumberland, on Monday, May 1, 2017, at 11 a.m., following a viewing beginning at 10 a.m.
