Beatrice's Story

BERRYVILLE, Va. Beatrice Dolores Cage, 84, of Berryville, formerly of Cumberland, passed away Thursday, Jan. 18, 2018, at the Winchester Medical Center.
Born Feb. 7, 1933, in Cumberland, Dolores was the daughter of the late N. Arvella (Riggleman) and Edward Odgers. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband, Ronald F. Cage; two brothers-in-law, Robert Kaiser and John Mangus; and one sister-in-law, Mary Lou Cage Mangus.
Dolores was a 1951 graduate of Fort Hill High School. She went on to work for a telephone company in Cumberland, where she started as an operator and worked her way up to the engineering department, for 35 years before retiring. She was a devoted lifetime member of Livingstone Church of the Brethren. She took on many roles at the church such as deacon and Sunday school teacher, and she even volunteered her time in the nursery. Dolores graduated from Cornerstone Bible Institute in 1997. In her free time, she was an avid reader, and she dabbled in other hobbies - crochet, ceramics, and even playing guitar. She was also her husband's biggest supporter at his softball games.
Dolores is survived by her daughter, Ronna L. Decker and husband, Jimmy, Berryville; grandchildren, Jason S. Decker and wife, Linda, Winchester, Va., and Adam W. Decker and wife, Kristi, Charles Town, W.Va.; four great-grandchildren, Amanda Lee Decker, Jessica Skylar Decker, Taylor Paige Decker, and Brayden Cage Decker; sister, Regina S. Kaiser, Cumberland; and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.
Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Ave., Cumberland, on Monday, Jan. 22, 2018, from 2 to 5 p.m.
A funeral service will be conducted on Tuesday, Jan. 23, 2018, at the funeral home at 11 a.m. with Pastor Gerald Hott officiating. Friends will be received one hour prior to the service.
Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Park.
