Betty's Story

OLDTOWN Betty Priscilla Shriver, 88, of Oldtown, passed away Friday, Nov. 17, 2017, at her home.
Born Nov. 27, 1928, in Bedford County, Pa., Mrs. Shriver was the daughter of the late Wilbur Lamont Cessna and Ethel June (O'Neal) Cessna. She was also preceded in death by her brothers, Wilbur Cessna Jr., Clifford Cessna, Carl Cessna, and David Cessna; and an infant sister.
Betty touched many lives in so many ways and leaves a legacy of love, hard work, good food, a giving heart, and strong moral values to those who survive her.
Betty was Bill's bride for 70 years of marriage. Together they served as Christian role models for not only every member of their family, but everyone who knows them. Betty protected her children by always putting them first in her life. She opened her home lovingly to her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
In addition, Betty worked at Lions Manor Nursing Home and cleaned homes for private families for over 16 years. She was a member of the Flintstone United Methodist Church, where she volunteered tirelessly for the church, donating her well-known baked goods and meals throughout the community. She did a lot of work on the farm, gardening, raising chickens and delivering fresh eggs and vegetables weekly throughout the area.
Betty is survived by her husband, William E. "Bill" Shriver; her son, Robert "Bobby" Shriver, Oldtown; and her daughters, Patricia Yvonne Cordry and husband, James, Vacaville, Calif., and Janet Marie Raines and husband, Keith, Cumberland,. She also leaves behind her grandchildren, Robert "Robby" Shriver and wife, Meredith, Oldtown, Timothy "Tim" Shriver and Mandy Dolan, Oldtown, Melissa Miller and husband, L.J., Grantsville, and Charles "Chuck" Raines and wife, Jamie, Cumberland, and her great-grandchildren, Noah, Gracie, and Ava Shriver, Madalyn and Bryliee Miller, Hunter, Haylee and Holdyn Raines, Maryn and Emersyn Shriver, Olivia Nolan, and Camren Stewart. Betty is also survived by her brothers, Dennis Cessna and wife, Judy, and Donald Cessna, all of Clearville, Pa.; her sisters, Mabel Bible, Flintstone, and Dorothy Yokum, Clearville; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received at the Adams Family Funeral Home, P.A., 404 Decatur St., Cumberland, (www.AdamsFamilyFuneralHome.com) on Monday, Nov. 20, 2017, from 2 to 4 and from 7 to 9 p.m.
A funeral service will be conducted at the funeral home on Tuesday, Nov. 21, 2017, at 11 a.m.
Pallbearers will be members of the family.
Interment will be in Glendale Cemetery, Flintstone.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to WMHS Hospice staff, Comfort Keepers care takers Sierra Covey and Heidi Banuelos, Dr. Sunil Gupta and staff, along with Johnson Heights Lab staff.
