Bonnie Jean Dohrman

Bonnie Jean Dohrman, 61, of Cumberland, passed away unexpectedly from complications of pneumonia on Friday, April 12, 2019, at the Western Maryland Regional Medical System.
Born Jan. 2, 1958, she was the daughter of the late Jackson L. and Betty Jo (Barnes) Dohrman.
Bonnie is survived by her sister, Robin Dohrman Ayers and husband, Kenny of Romney; a nephew, Ian S. Jeffries and husband, Reid Prichard of Seattle, Washington; two nieces, Kelly R. Ayers of Morgantown and Stephanie E. Ayers of Pittsburgh; a great-nephew, Sloan E. Nesbit of Morgantown. She is also survived by her childhood friend, Sherri Delawder and special friend, Tammy Quesenberry, as well as her fury friends, Doc and Yeager.
Bonnie marched to the beat of her own drum and lived life her way. Born in Cumberland and raised in Short Gap, W.Va., she graduated from Fort Ashby High School in 1976. After attending Shepherd College, she worked as a CNA at Boone's Nursing Home in Pennsylvania. In 1978 she moved back home and went to work in Cumberland for Ren Roy Flowers. Soon after the move, Bonnie was involved in a tragic single car accident which left her in a coma for three months and severely disabled.
After several years of rehab, Bonnie moved to Frostburg Village Assisted Living Care. That is where she met the love of her life, Mike Vanetta. After Mike's passing, her friends at Tender Loving Care were her assistants, and her pets became her family.
Bonnie was very proud of her Irish heritage and used that temperament with skill. She had a big personality and a strong will. Her relationship with her mother was like no other. Though they may not have always seen eye to eye, her mother's unconditional love was always there. She loved animals and harassing "The Jerk" (Ian) and Kenny about various things, especially peanut butter coffee.
Bonnie managed to continue her life, in an uncooperative body, for 41 years after her auto accident. The family wishes to express their gratitude to all the care givers at Tender Loving Care for their genuine support and love for Bonnie through the years.
A private graveside interment will be held at Fort Ashby Cemetery in Fort Ashby, W.Va.
Friends will be received for a memorial visitation at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, please consider making memorial contributions in Bonnie's name to Allegany County Animal Shelter, 716 Furnace St., Cumberland, MD 21502.

We were good friends for several years. My husband, Richard, & l would see her in Frostburg until my disability kept me from doing so. I will miss you, Bonnie, so very much. Such a beautiful woman!
