SHORT GAP, W.Va. Bonnie Marie Dowden, 64, of Short Gap, died on Tuesday, Oct. 24, 2017, at home. She had courageously fought breast cancer for 15 years.
Born May 12, 1953, in Cumberland, she was the daughter of the late Elmer A. Porter and Bertha M. (Wagoner) Porter. She was also preceded in death by two sisters, Reba and Sharon Porter.
Bonnie was a graduate of Ridgeley High School.
She was retired from Mineral County School System, having been the cafeteria manager at Frankfort High School.
She attended Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church.
Bonnie enjoyed taking Sunday afternoon drives with her husband. She loved spending time with her granddaughters. Throughout her life, Bonnie never met a stranger. She had that wonderful ability to make everyone feel special!
She is the beloved wife of John M. Dowden; devoted and loving mother to Penny M. Chaney and husband, Scott; cherished grandmother of Allison Chaney and Erica Chaney.
Friends will be received at the Upchurch Funeral Home, Inc., Route 28, Fort Ashby, on Thursday, Oct. 26, 2017, from 6 to 9 p.m. and Friday, Oct. 27, 2017, from 10 to 11 a.m.
The funeral service will be held on Friday, Oct. 28, 2017, at 11 a.m. in the funeral home, with Jay Harris, officiating.
Interment will be in Fort Ashby Cemetery.
Serving as pallbearers will be Bill Browning, William Williams, Paul Wagoner Jr., Kevin Whiteman, Paul Dowden, Melvin Dowden, and Scott Nazelrod. Honorary pallbearers will be Lanny Hinkle and Dick Frye.
The family would like to thank Potomac Valley Hospice and nurse, Marsha Combs, for the kind, compassionate care provided to Bonnie.
