Carl Clifford Black
Born on Dec. 2, 1940, in Cumberland, he was the son of the late Elon Chauncey Black and Mary Margaret (Smith) Black, Cumberland. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, George Washington and Rose Katherine (Kirby) Smith; paternal grandparents, George Richard and Estela (Lindamood) Black; and sister, Rosalind (Rusty) Elon Black.
Carl proudly served his country in the United States Army for three years, from 1958 to 1961, and two years in the United States Navy from 1965 to 1967. He worked for the Kelly Springfield Tire Co. for several years. When the plant closed, Carl went into business as an antique dealer.
Carl is survived by his wife, Theresa Kay (Robertson) Black; daughters, Carla Kay Black and her special someone Tim Patz, Cumberland, and Natalie Marie Wartzack, Silver Spring; son, Carl Clifford Wartzack and wife Melanie, Ellicott City; sisters, K. Darlene Park and husband William, Frostburg, and Inez Kathy Black, Hayward, CA; nephew, William R. Park, Jr., Woodbine; and seven grandchildren, Thomas, Noah, Luke, Maisie, Joseph, Emma, and Jayden.
Family and friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Avenue, Cumberland, on Thursday, Jan.10, 2019, from 6 to 8 p.m.
Funeral services will be conducted at the funeral home on Friday, Jan. 11, 2019, at 11 a.m. with Chaplain Bruce McBride officiating. Interment will be in the Maryland State Veteran's Cemetery, Rocky Gap.
