MOUNT STORM Carol Jean Horn-Junkins, 76, of Mount Storm, formerly of Springfield, passed away Monday, Dec. 11, 2017, at Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown.
Born Oct. 23, 1941 in Maysville, she was the daughter of the late Charles O. and Ethel M. (Riggleman) Getz.
Besides her parents, Jean is preceded in death by her husband, John E. Horn Sr. (dec. June 22, 2003). Two brothers, Olen D. and Roger A. Getz and by her sister, Charlotte M. Legg.
Jean is survived by her husband, James Lewis Junkins; a son, John E. Horn Jr. and wife, Joyce of Springfield; a step-son, James L. Junkins and wife, Lisa of Broadway, Va.; two daughters, Rhonda J. Crawford and husband, David of Springfield and Carol A. Moreland and husband, Junior of Springfield; a brother, Charles W. Getz of Hancock; five sisters, Wanda B. Burgess of Philippi, Kay Funk and husband, Roy of Romney, Donna D. Vogal and husband, Terry of Exeter, Pa., Robin L. Small and fiancé, Hector Cardona of Miami, Fla., and Mary C. Shanholtz and husband, Jason of Slanesville. Jean is also survived by six grandchildren, Krystle R. Pritchard and husband, Rob, LaTasha J. Crawford, Jared T. Horn, Justin M. Horn, Colten L. Moreland, and Courtney D. Moreland. Six great grandchildren, Kiara, Christian, Zackery, Skyler, Micaya, and Brendan as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Jean graduated with the class of 1959 from Fort Ashby High School and was a member of the Romney Church of God, the Springfield Rescue Squad and the Springfield Ruritan Club. She also attended the Free Gospel Bible Institute in Export, Pa. Many will remember Jean from their school days when she drove a school bus for Hampshire County for 30+ years. Jean had an entrepreneurial streak and was in the restaurant business in several locations in Hampshire County as well as selling her own hand cut glassware. Other talents included woodworking and she had a passion for working with the elderly. Jean loved to sing and she loved music, playing multiple instruments including the piano, organ and accordion. She dearly loved her family and being together, with her grandchildren being the center of her world.
Friends will be received Thursday, Dec. 14, 2017, from 1 p.m. till 3 and from 5 till 7 p.m. at Shaffer Funeral Home in Romney.
Funeral services will be held Friday, Dec. 15, 2017, at 11 a.m. at the Romney Church of God with the Rev. Raymond Sterling officiating.
Interment will follow at Branch Mountain Cemetery, Three Churches.
