Carolyn Ann (Kerns) Woodson, 84, passed away on Feb. 5, 2018, in Summerville, SC.
Born on Oct. 6, 1933, in Ridgeley, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Pauline (Shomo) and Floyd Kerns. She was preceded in death by her three sisters; Elizabeth Joan, Doris Jean, and Evelyn Mae.
Ms. Woodson married Walter E. Woodson, Jr in 1959, and they raised three children together. In the early 1980s, Mr. Woodson began manifesting symptoms of dementia, and they retired to Short Gap. From that time until his death in 1997, Ms. Woodson cared for him with remarkable dedication and kindness.
Carolyn Woodson was profoundly committed to her children and grandchildren; son John (Mary Travis); daughter Judy (Greg Bruhn), daughter Diane (John Sinclair) and daughter Sandy (Meghan Howes); and grandsons, George Bruhn, Daniel Sinclair (Tina Cowan) and Nathan Sinclair. She adored her great-grandchildren, Silas and Ivy Sinclair; as well as her nieces and nephews, Pam Carder, David Carder, Jennifer Biedka, Sarah Elizabeth Biedka, Karen Patson, Melissa Queen, and Cassandra Thomas.
She most certainly loved us with her whole being. Some of the things we loved about her: She regularly laughed until she cried. She was hilarious and occasionally sarcastic. She had no time for people "putting on airs." Her favorite color was pink. She did not enjoy sushi. She listened to classical music and watched her fair share of HGTV. On 9/11, she pulled out the American flag that had draped my father's casket, and hung it from the front porch. She loved crepe myrtles, live oaks, and the mystery of an owl's silent flight.
As per her wishes, there will be no formal service, but she'd most certainly appreciate any contributions to the Family Crisis Resource Center in Cumberland.
