Catherine "Cathy"'s Story
CUMBERLAND - Catherine "Cathy" Jean (Ayers) Fey-Shelley, 78, of Cumberland, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 31, 2018, at Allegany Health, Nursing, and Rehabilitation Center in the presence of her family.
Born April 14, 1939, in Cumberland, Mrs. Shelley was the daughter of the late Louis and Ruth (Hansrote) Ayers. She was also preceded in death by both husbands, Fredrick "Fred" Fey and Kenneth Shelley; and a sister-in-law, Nina Ayers.
Cathy was a graduate of Fort Hill High School, Class of 1958. After graduation, Cathy worked at Christopher's Photo Lab until becoming the Co-Owner of Burke's Tavern with her husband, Fred. Before retiring, she was employed at the Cumberland Country Club. Cathy was better known as "mother" being that she was a mother to not only her children but also grandchildren, and even friends. Cathy spent the majority of her life dedicated to her husband and family. She held her friends near and dear to her heart. Some of her favorite times were spent laughing and reminiscing with her "girls" and classmates. Football was Cathy's favorite pastime, specifically watching the Green Bay Packers and her Alma Mater, the Fort Hill Sentinels.
Cathy is survived by her daughter, Tammy Annette O'Reilly and husband, Mark, Keyser, W.Va.; and her sons, Fredrick "Fred" Fey and wife, Rita, Bedford, Pa., and Henri "Ted" Fey and partner, Shelly Amick, Quantico. She also leaves behind seven special grandchildren that filled her heart with so much joy, Andrew "Dewey" Rader and wife, Abby, Brandon Rader, Katelyn "Katie" Mock and fiancé, Jason Yoder, Dustin Clayton and wife, Meghan, William Fey, James Fey, and Rebecca Fey; as well as six great grandchildren. Cathy is also survived by her brothers, Lou Ayers and wife, Marsha, Johnny Ayers and wife, Mary Francis, and Edward "Eddie" Ayers.
Friends will be received at the Adams Family Funeral Home, P.A., 404 Decatur St., Cumberland, (www.AdamsFamilyFuneralHome.com) on Sunday, Feb. 4, 2018, from 2 to 4 p.m.
A memorial service will follow at 4 p.m. with Pastor Randy Crowe officiating.
