Charles O. Hiett Jr. of Short Gap, W.Va., went to be with the Lord on Saturday, Nov. 25, 2017, after a one-and-a-half year battle with cancer.
Born Jan. 19, 1947, in Cumberland, he was the son of the late Charles O. Hiett Sr. and Nora P. (Browning) Hiett.
He was also preceded in death by a niece, Susan Kirk, and a nephew, Rob Kirk.
He was a 1965 graduate of Fort Ashby High School.
Charles was a U.S. Marine veteran, where he served and was wounded in Viet Nam.
He worked for Fairmont Foods in Cumberland for five years. He then worked for RC Marker Co. (Wise Potato Chips), retiring after 25 years of service.
Charles was an avid hunter. He especially liked rabbit hunting with his beagles and deer hunting with family and friends. He also loved to travel around the country.
Survivors include his wife of 49 years, Deborah (Adams) Hiett; two sons, Troy Hiett and wife, Shannon, and Jason Hiett and wife, Christina; four grandsons, Jacob, Cole, Noah, and Damon; a sister, Darlene Kirk and husband, Bob; nephew, Jeff Kirk and wife, Tracy; and their two sons, JT and James. His family also includes a sister-in-law, Barb Dodge and husband, George; two brothers-in-law, Rob Adams and wife, Cheryl, and Jeff Adams and wife, Linda; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received at Upchurch Funeral Home Inc., Route 28, Fort Ashby, W.Va., on Monday, Nov. 27, 2017, from 4 to 7 p.m.
Services will be held Tuesday, Nov. 28, 2017, at 11 a.m. in the funeral home with Marshall Carder officiating and assisted by David Sutton.
Interment will be in Fort Ashby Cemetery, where military honors will be accorded by Ft. Cumberland Post 13 Honor Guard.
Serving as pallbearers will be Troy Hiett, Jason Hiett, Jacob Hiett, Cole Hiett, Noah Hiett, Damon Hiett, and Jeff Kirk.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Children's Hospital Transplant Camp of the Pittsburgh Foundation, Central Plant, Floor 3, 4401 Penn Avenue, Pittsburgh, PA 15224.
