Constance's Story

POTOMAC PARK - Constance A. Shoup, 73, of Potomac Park, Cumberland, passed away on Tuesday, Oct. 31, 2017, at the Western Maryland Regional Medical Center.
Born on April 25, 1944, in Cumberland, she was the daughter of the late Valentine and Georgia (Shaffer) DeArcangelis. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her grandparents, Dominic and Clementia DeArcangelis, and Vivian and Virginia Shaffer; and one brother, William M. DeArcangelis.
Connie was a member of the 1962 graduating class of Catholic Girls Central, graduated with a B.A. Degree from College of Notre Dame, Baltimore, and a M.ED from Frostburg State University. She taught 35 years in elementary schools, 20 of those years at the former St. John Neumann School, Cumberland, before retirement in 2002. She was a member of Our Lady of the Mountains Parish, and organist and music director for several years at St. Ambrose Catholic Church, Cresaptown.
Surviving are her husband, John, whom she married on Aug. 30, 1969; one son, Jay Shoup; grandson, Jacob, Ocean Pines, and former daughter-in-law, Lee Ann Kenney-Shoup; sisters-in-law, Kim DeArcangelis, Orlando, Fla., and Sue Cosner, Cumberland; brothers-in-law, Dave Shoup and Mike Izer, both of Hagerstown, Robert Shoup, DeFuniak Springs, Fla., and William Shoup and wife, Janice, Rawlings; and several special nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Family and friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 15205 McMullen Hwy SW, Cresaptown, on Friday, Nov. 3, 2017 from 4 to 7 p.m.
At Connie's request, her body will be cremated, and the inurnment will be at the Maryland State Veterans' Cemetery, Rocky Gap.
A committal service and inurnment will be conducted at the cemetery's chapel on Monday, Nov. 6, 2017, at 11 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, it is requested that donations be sent to School Sisters of Notre Dame, Villa Assumpta, 6401 N Charles Street, Baltimore, MD 21212-1016.
