Cora "Alice" Gaither, 85, of Bayard , died on Saturday, Aug. 19, 2017, at Dennett Road Manor Nursing Home in Oakland, Md.
Born on Jan. 29, 1932, in Bayard, she was the daughter of the late Daniel Noah and Elsie Katherine (Turner) Cosner.
She served as school secretary for Bayard and Union elementary schools for more than 20 years and was a member of Bayard United Methodist Church. Alice kindly volunteered her time to Toys for Tots and Mountain Top Food Pantry. In addition to spending time with and taking care of her family, she enjoyed sewing, crafts, puzzles, gardening, feeding birds and reading.
She is survived by a son, Harry A. Gaither, and wife, Trudy, of Bayard; a daughter, Peggy Riggleman, and husband, Randy, of Bayard; grandchildren, Carrie Slaubaugh and husband, James, Jessica Gaither, Zach Riggleman and wife, Candice, Noah Gaither, Isaac Riggleman and wife, Cecalie; great-grandchildren, Trevor, Cole, Hunter, Candace, Chanda, Jaxon, Jackie and Sutter; her sister, Rosalee Johnson, of Reedsville, W.Va.; sisters-in-law, Nina Sisson, Francis Bosley and Ruth Ann Cooper; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Harry E. Gaither, in 2012, and a sister, Edith Gaither.
Friends will be received at the C & S Fredlock Funeral Home, P.A., 21 N. Second St., Oakland, on Tuesday, Aug. 22, 2017, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. and at Bayard United Methodist Church on Wednesday, Aug. 23, 2017, from 10 to 11 a.m. after which time funeral services will be held with Pastor Rebecca Bennett officiating.
Interment will follow in the Bayard Cemetery.
