D'Ann's Story

Text size

D'Ann M. (Martin) Caron, 54, of Malden, Mass., formerly of Cumberland, passed away suddenly on Tuesday, Aug. 22, 2017.
D'Ann was the beloved wife of Dr. Paul R. Caron, her husband of 30 years; and the loving mother of five children, Michael A., Stephen J., Laura K., Benjamin R., and Daniel P. Caron. D'Ann was born and grew up in Cumberland. She was the daughter of Georgia M. (Wolfe) Martin and the late Al M. Martin of Cumberland; and the sister of Don'a M. Martin of Reisterstown.
D'Ann met her husband Paul in Baltimore, while they worked at Johns Hopkins. The couple married in 1986 and later moved to Massachusetts, where D'Ann received a master's degree from Harvard University. D'Ann spent 29 years working as a laboratory manager at Harvard University, Dana Farber Cancer Institute, and OvaScience.
D'Ann derived great joy from continuously seeking out new experiences in life, both big and small. She was an avid traveler and visited many exotic locations during her lifetime, including Antarctica, the Arctic Circle, and the Galapagos Islands. However, she also was excited by simpler sights in life, from lighthouses to flowers to wildlife. Warm and welcoming, she met and befriended people wherever she went and was an active member of the community, frequently volunteering for organizations such as school parent groups. She will be missed dearly by family and friends.
Friends will be received at the Adams Family Funeral Home, P.A., 404 Decatur Street, Cumberland, (www.AdamsFamilyFuneralHome.com) on Monday, Aug. 28, 2017, from 3 to 7 p.m.
Mass of the Christian burial will be celebrated at Our Lady of the Mountains Parish, Saint Patrick's Catholic Church, Cumberland, on Tuesday, Aug. 29, 2017, at 10 a.m.
Interment will be in Oliver's Grove Cemetery, Oldtown.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in D'Ann's memory to The Bread of Life, 54 Eastern Ave., Malden, MA 02148; or to Oliver's Grove Church, 15500 Walnut Ridge Rd., SE, Oldtown, MD 21555.
