David "Dave"'s Story

David Elliott "Dave" Heatwole, 55, of Martinsburg, W.Va., died Saturday, June 17, 2017, at Hospice of the Panhandle, Kearneysville.
Born June 4, 1962, he was the son of Genevieve Larew Heatwole and the late Hubert Elliott "Pete" Heatwole, Romney.
He is survived by his wife, Janet Hensley, Leesburg, Va.; a sister, Pamela Heatwole See, Romney; a nephew, Dylan See, Romney; and two very special great-nieces, JaLeah and Keyara Heatwole, of Romney, whose mother, Ashley, preceded David's death. He is survived by his aunts, Roberta Allison of Charleston, and Julia Light (husband Paul "Buddy") of Marie; uncles, Conrad "Coon" Larew (wife Delene) and Wilber "Wib" Larew (wife Irene) of Hans Creek, and Charles Larew (wife Dorothy "Dottie") of Indian Creek. David is also survived by many beloved cousins.
David graduated from Hampshire High School, class of 1980, and was a member of the marching band. He attended West Virginia University, graduating with a degree in business management. Following graduation, he worked as an auditor for the West Virginia State Tax Department, until he was diagnosed with cancer, Feb. 1, 2017. He met his news of cancer head on, and did all he could to fight it. Dave enjoyed all types of music, WVU Sports, hunting, fishing, photography, extensive research of family genealogy, antiquing, cooking and spending time with family and friends. Dave never met a stranger and his outgoing, funny and high spirited personality will be deeply missed.
Friends will be received on Saturday, June 24, 2017, at Shaffer Funeral Home in Romney, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m.
A memorial service will be held at Hans Creek Union Church, Greenville, on Sunday, July 2, 2017, at 10 a.m.
At his request, his ashes will be buried at the Larew-Vawter Family Cemetery.
