David Evington Evans, 87, of Grantsville, died Thursday, Aug. 24, 2017, at Goodwill Mennonite Home, Grantsville.
Born November 3, 1929, in Vale Summit, he was the son of the late Shannon F. and Sadie (Platter) Evans. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Zeltha May (Folk) Evans, Dec. 19, 2015; two sisters, Edith O'Connor and Gertrude Lobb; step-mother, Genevieve (Skelley) Evans.
Mr. Evans was a master sergeant in the U.S. Air Force for 24 years and retired from Billy Bender Chevrolet after 24 years of service. He also drove school bus and was a member of the Grantsville Post 214, American Legion, and Trinity United Church of Christ.
He is survived by three sons, David R. Evans, Wichita Falls, Tex.; Dale E. Evans, Frostburg; and Darrel R. Evans, Stafford, Va.; one daughter, Diane L. Wood, Grantsville; one sister, Elsie Sanell, Mexico; one half-brother, Harry Evans, Port Deposit; three half-sisters, Bonnie Joseph, Easton, Pa.; Anna Oldham, Schellsburg, Pa.; Grace Herline, Manns Choice, Pa.; four grandchildren, 14 step-grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
The family would like to thank Goodwill Mennonite Home and Hospice of Garrett County for the care they provided.
A memorial service will be held at the Trinity United Church of Christ on Saturday, Sept. 9, 2017, at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Dr. Alexa Smith officiating.
Interment will be in the Trinity Cemetery. Military graveside rites will be accorded by Grantsville Post 214, American Legion.
Newman Funeral Homes, P.A., 179 Miller St., Grantsville, is in charge of arrangements.
