Debra Ann Oates, 61, of Cumberland, passed away on Monday, September 10, 2018, at home.
Born on August 20, 1957, in Cumberland, she was the daughter of the late Barbara Bosley Stewart and Kenneth McKee, and step-father, Paul Lloyd. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband of 30 years, Rodney Lee Oates.
Debra was a 1975 graduate of Ridgeley High. She earned an associate's degree from Allegany College of Maryland in Human Services. She was a devoted social service worker at Friends Aware for 20 years. Debra enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandsons. She was an avid reader with an intellectual mind.
She is survived by her daughter, Leigh Oates and partner Jim Sweitzer; son, Rodney Lee Oates II and wife Ginger; grandsons, Rodney Lee Oates III, and Lemmy Reznor Oates; brother, Donald Lloyd and wife Melanie; sisters, Denise Davis and husband Brian, and Donna Carder and husband Mike; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Family and friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Avenue, Cumberland, on Sunday, September 16, 2018, from 10 to 11 a.m.
A memorial service will immediately follow at the funeral home at 11 a.m.
