Dewey's Story

BURLINGTON, W.Va. Dewey Vance Rotruck, 97, of Push Root Road, Burlington, went to be with his Lord on Tuesday, Dec. 12, 2017, at the Piney Valley Nursing Home, Keyser.
Born on Feb. 18, 1920, at Keyser, he was the son of the late George Dewey and Minnie Florence (Rotruck) Rotruck. He also was preceded in death by his wife, Betty J. (Liller) Rotruck on Dec. 23, 2006; a son-in-law, Brandon Donohoe and two sisters, Genevieve Martinsen and Dorothy Mae Wallace.
Mr. Rotruck was a remarkable and well-loved man who grew up roaming the hills and valleys of Martin and Antioch, as well as the streets of Keyser. Dewey spent many years employed as a janitor at Potomac State College where the students and staff came to know him as "Mr. Clean." A man of great faith, Dewey enjoyed singing songs of praise with his rich, bass voice with the choir of both the Keyser Church of the Brethren and the Sunnyside Church of the Brethren, in addition to the Beacon's Gospel Quartet.
Surviving are his children, Patricia "Patsy" Taylor and husband, Robert "Bob" of Burlington, Dewey V. "Bud" Rotruck Jr. and wife, Linda of Morgantown, Virginia "Mary" Donohoe of Winchester, Va., Sharon Everett and husband, Paul of Millersburg, Pa. and Donald Ray Rotruck and wife, Cheryl of Romney; a special nephew, Jeffrey Pyle of Burlington; 12 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren, four great-great grandchildren and numerous other nieces and nephews.
Friends may call at the Smith Funeral Home, Burlington Chapel, on Sunday, Dec. 17, 2017, from 6 to 8 p.m.
Funeral services will be conducted at the Smith Funeral Home, Burlington Chapel, on Monday, Dec. 18, 2017, at 11 a.m. with Pastor Randy Shoemaker officiating. Friends may also call at the funeral home one hour prior to the service.
Interment will be in the Knobley Cemetery, Martin.
