Dixie's Story

Text size

PARKVILLE Dixie Jean Rhodes was born on Dec. 8, 1934, in Cumberland, and died on Tuesday, May 9, 2017.
Beloved wife of the late Roy Rhodes; mother of the late Roy "Dusty" Rhodes and Cheryl Rhodes Germack; grandmother to Ian Rhodes, Bethany Germack, Kellie Germack, Christopher Rhodes, Ronald Germack III, and Rachel Rhodes.
She was one of 14 children born to John and Eva Riggleman, Joseph Riggleman, Merle Riggleman, the late Carl Riggleman, the late Richard Riggleman, the late Thomas Riggleman, Thelma Friske, Millie Roach, the late Nancy Robinette, the late Nellie Riggleman, the late Ruth Riggleman, and the late Helen Riggleman.
Dixie was a person who put her family first; she would do anything for anyone especially her grandkids. In her early years, Dixie worked as a substitute teacher. After leaving teaching, she turned her focus towards helping to raise her grandchildren. At Parkview apartments, she enjoyed organizing social activities and tending to the garden she planted and kept up so that other residents could enjoy. She was always eager to have a chat over something homemade and be the voice of reason in any given situation. Aside from gardening, she loved reading, word search puzzles, watching The Golden Girls (amongst other shows and Lifetime movies), hanging out with her "Golden Girls," and listening to her radio and country music. Dixie cherished each moment she had with her friends and family. She will be greatly missed.
