BUFFALO MILLS, Pa. Donald G. Whitford, 94, of Buffalo Mills, went to be with the Lord, Thursday, Dec. 21, 2017, at UPMC Bedford.
Born Nov. 18, 1923, in Meyersdale, he was a son of the late James R. Sr. and Elizabeth M. (Shumaker) Whitford. He was also preceded in death by wives, Eleanor J. (Swauger) Whitford in 2000 and Anna Mary (Smith) Whitford in 2017; a brother, James Whitford Jr.; and a sister, Marian Payden.
Survived by a daughter, Donna Housel and husband, Ben; a son, Glenn Whitford; grandchildren, Tammy Dawson and husband, Kenny, Jason Whitford all of Buffalo Mills, Aaron Housel of Springhill, Tenn.; four great grandchildren and a special cousin Jeannie Whitford of Meyersdale.
Donald served in the US Army during World War II receiving the Asiatic Pacific Theatre Ribbon with 2 Bronze Stars, Philippine Liberation Ribbon, Good Conduct Metal, Meritorious Unit Award and the World War II Victory Metal. He had worked for many years for the B&O Railroad and CSX in the Roll Shop and as a Machinist. He was a member of Christ Lutheran Church where he served at Treasurer for many years. He was a life member of the Hyndman VFW Oscar Jordan Post and the Lybarger Cemetery Association.
Friends will be received at the Harvey H. Zeigler Funeral Home, Inc., 169 Clarence St., Hyndman, on Tuesday, Dec. 26, 2017, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
A funeral service will be conducted at the Christ Lutheran Church, 7319 Hyndman Rd., Buffalo Mills, on Wednesday, Dec. 27, 2017, at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Ray Short officiating. Viewing will be held one hour prior to the service.
Burial will follow at Lybarger Cemetery, Buffalo Mills with military honors by the Fort Bedford Honor Guard.
