MOUNT STORM, W.Va. Donna Lou (Hanlin) Keefer, 74, of Mount Storm, passed away at her home on Sunday, Aug. 27, 2017, surrounded by her family after a 4 1/2 year battle with cancer.
Born on April 1, 1943, at Petersburg, she was a daughter of the late Oliver "Doc" Hanlin and Wilda (Moreland) Hanlin Cullers. She also was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Kathy (Keefer) Fort.
Donna attended Bayard High School where she met the love of her life, Wilbur F. Keefer. They married and settled in LaPlata, where they raised their two children, Mack and Vanessa and after retirement, the couple returned to her homestead in Mount Storm to enjoy their retirement years. On Aug. 25, 2017, she and Wilbur celebrated their 54th wedding anniversary.
Donna spent her life as a woman of God. She enjoyed gardening, playing her guitar and singing, watching hummingbirds and spending time with her family. She especially loved spending time on Skyline Drive in Virginia, seeing all of God's glory and chasing bears for a picture.
Donna was proud of her family and was a loving wife to her husband, Wilbur; a devoted mother to her son, Mack Keefer and wife, Sherri of Mount Storm and her daughter, Vanessa (Keefer) Bowie and husband, Russell of Charlotte Hall; a devoted and loving grandmother to her three surviving grandchildren, Joseph Bowie, William Bowie and Heidi (Keefer) Martin and three great-grandchildren, Katheryne and Robbie Martin and Kendall Bowie.
At Mrs. Keefer's request, her body was donated to the Human Gift Registry at the West Virginia University School of Medicine, Morgantown.
A memorial service will be conducted at the Calvary Temple, Mount Storm, on Saturday, Sept. 30, 2017, at 3 p.m. with the Rev. Gloria Georg officiating. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the Mountain Hospice staff for their excellent and compassionate care during Donna's last days.
The Smith Funeral Home and Crematory assisted the family with the final arrangements.
Condolences and personal reflections to the family may be left after Mrs. Keefer's obituary at smithfuneralhomes.net.
