Doris Pauline Nield, 85, went to be with the Lord on Monday, Oct. 23, 2017.
Born June 10, 1932, in Cherry Run (Morgan County), she was the daughter of the late Daniel R. Householder and Sadie (Hoffman) Householder. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Marshall Nield.
Survivors include her three children, Veva Nield and husband, Joseph Beeman, Daniel Nield, and Molly Stevey and husband, Dave; grandchildren, Aaron Leatherman, Amber Leatherman, Adam Beeman, and Sarah Snyder; step-grandchildren, Dave Stevey, Shannon Yaider, and Sherry Plum; great-grandchildren, Noelle Kesner, Noah Kesner, Ashlyn Snyder, and Hunter Beeman; step- great-grandchildren, Kara Ely and Katelyn Wilkinson; three brothers, Truman Householder and wife, Sandra, Harry Householder and wife, Marie, and Dale Householder and wife, Judy; and several nieces and nephews.
Doris was a graduate of Fort Ashby High School and Memorial Hospital School of Nursing. She was hired in June 1974, as the director and first employee of the Mineral County Committee on Aging (now Aging & Family Services). She retired in 1997. Over the years, the organization developed many programs to assist the seniors in the county. She was also a nurse at Romney Hospital and Ventura County, California, nursing home.
Doris was a long-time member of Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church, where she was active in many aspects of church work and especially loved teaching Sunday school. She was a member and past worthy matron of Romney Chapter 84, O.E.S.
Friends will be received at the Upchurch Funeral Home, Inc., Route 28, Fort Ashby, on Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m. and at Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church on Thursday from noon until 2 p.m.
The funeral service will follow at 2 p.m. with Pastor Scott Knowlton officiating.
Interment will be in Fort Ashby Cemetery.
Serving as pallbearers will be Daniel Nield, Aaron Leatherman, Adam Beeman, Eric Householder, Rodney Knotts and Joel Knotts.
