Dorothy Jane (Ley) Altice
June 15, 1916 - November 30, 2018
Born June 15, 1916, in Akron, Ohio, she was the daughter of the late Leo H. and Bertha (Keller) Ley Sr. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husbands, William Derwood Wolford, and Frank B. Altice; daughter, Barbara Ann Marriott; step-daughter, Mary Helen Bower; great-grandson, Timothy Renner; brothers, Dr. Leo H. Ley Jr., and Robert Ley and wife, Patricia; sisters, Lucille Moser and husband, Michael, Mary Catherine Kennedy and husband, Robert, Alberta "Birdie" Robinson, and Irene Grabenstein and husband, Herman; and step-sister, Mary Elbin and husband, Max.
Dorothy was enrolled at SS. Peter and Paul Elementary School, Ursuline Academy, Class of 1933, and Ursuline Business School. She was employed by M.D. Reinhart Insurance Agency, and Maryland Department of Natural Resources. Dorothy served as a volunteer at the former Sacred Heart Hospital and as a Sultana of Wamba Caravan No. 89, Order of the Alhambra. She was a member of SS. Peter and Paul Shrine, Our Lady of the Mountains Parish, Cumberland, for many years.
Surviving are her daughter, Nancy Welsh and husband, Ronald, Cumberland; son-in-law, Paul Marriott, Williamsburg, Va.; step-son-in-law, Glenn Bower, Cumberland; brother-in-law, J.B. Robinson, Cumberland; grandchildren, Dan Marriott, Washington, D.C., Linda Renner and husband, Doug, Taneytown, Kevin Welsh and wife, Deborah, Cumberland, Leah Kilduf, McLean, Va., Jessica Wallace, Hawthorne, Calif., and Kristi DeVore, Cumberland; great-grandchildren, Colin Renner, Megan Welsh, Noah Renner, Hannah Renner, Sean Kilduf, and Brendan Kilduf.
Friends will be received at Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Ave., Cumberland, Tuesday, Dec. 4, 2018, from 4 to 7 p.m. Christian Wake services will be celebrated at 7 p.m.
Funeral services will be conducted at Shrine of Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church, 125 Fayette St., Cumberland, on Wednesday, Dec. 5, 2018, at 10 a.m.
Interment will be in Saints Peter and Paul Cemetery.
The family extends their gratitude to the staff of the Allegany Health, Nursing and Rehabilitation Center for the kind, compassionate care that Dorothy was given while she resided there.
In lieu of flowers, family has requested that memorial contributions be made to Bishop Walsh School, 700 Bishop Walsh Road, Cumberland, MD 21502; or to St. Anthony's Place, 300 East Oldtown Road, Suite 2, Cumberland, MD 21502.
