Dorothy's Story

Dorothy Elizabeth Wagoner, 87, of Fort Ashby, W.Va., went home to be with the Lord, Monday, Feb. 19, 2018, at Western Maryland Regional Medical Center, Cumberland.
Born Oct. 16, 1930, in Alaska, W.Va. (now Fort Ashby), she was the daughter of the late Jacob Bane Rinker and Nellie Francis (Wagoner) Rinker.
She was also preceded in death by her husband, Lambert Melvin Wagoner, and an infant brother, Robert Rinker.
She was a graduate of Fort Ashby High School, Class of 1949.
She was employed at Ratcliff's Local EG Store for 26 years.
Dorothy was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, where she belonged to United Methodist Women and taught Sunday School Nursery Class for 17 years. She was a member of N.A.R.V.E. for 23 years and held several offices. She had served as den mother for Cub Scout Troop 69.
Dorothy was a member of Fort Ashby VFW Ladies Auxiliary Post 6667 for 65 years, where she held every office. She was State Auxiliary President from 1978 to 1979. Dorothy traveled to the National Convention in Hawaii in order that West Virginia was represented. Dorothy loved youth and served as a VFW youth camp counselor for 30 years.
She enjoyed playing Rec League sports in her younger years, softball, volleyball, and loved to bowl duckpins. She loved to garden, plant flowers, and watch her hummingbirds.
Dorothy was a very patriotic person and volunteered to work election polls. She loved the outdoors, and her favorite pets were cats, especially Boo Boo and Toby. Dorothy was a great fan of the Pittsburgh Pirates and West Virginia Mountaineers. She loved her grandchildren and followed them in their school activities.
Surviving are her children, Erma Watts, Rehobeth, Del., Linda Triplett and husband, Steve, Keyser, W.Va., Sally Suter and husband, Tom, Keyser, Jim Wagoner and wife, Vonda, Short Gap, W.Va., and Bonnie Wagoner, who lived with her and lovingly cared for her; eight grandchildren, Patrick, Jason, Rachel, and Clinton Watts, Amanda Bogdan, Matthew Triplett, Shane Wagoner, and Shannon Bivens; 11 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren.
Visitation at Upchurch Funeral Home Inc, Route 28, Fort Ashby, on Friday, Feb. 23, 2018, from 6 to 9 p.m. and Saturday, Feb. 24, 2018, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Memorial services by Fort Ashby VFW Ladies Auxiliary Post 6667 on Friday, Feb. 23, 2018, at 7 p.m., followed by services by United Methodist Women.
Services will be conducted on Saturday, Feb. 24, 2018, at 1 p.m. at the funeral home with Pastors James Jeffries and Sara Lamb officiating.
Interment will be in Fort Ashby Cemetery.
Serving as pallbearers will be Patrick and Clinton Watts, Shane Wagoner, Matthew Triplett, Paul Bogdan, and Tim Bivens. Honorary pallbearers will be Bill Judy, Gary Carroll, Kerry Puffinburger, and Joe Nestor.
