Douglas A. "Doug" Alderton, 60, of Cresaptown, passed away on Tuesday, Nov. 28, 2017, at Devlin Manor Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
Born in Cumberland, on Sept. 4, 1957, he was the son of Jean (Cunningham) Alderton, Cumberland and the late John R. Alderton, Sr. In addition to his father, he was also preceded in death by his brother, John R. Alderton, Jr.
Doug was a graduate of Fort Hill High School, class of 1975. In high school, Doug was a very good tennis player, and he was a member of the Fort Hill High School tennis team. Doug was also a member of the tennis league at Garlitz's tennis courts in Cumberland.
Doug was employed at Grove Manufacturing in Greencastle, Pa., for 25 years. At Grove's, he was a machinist. Doug was later employed at DB Woods, Chambersburg, Pa., and finally worked for American Woodmark in the Cumberland area. Doug was a member of the Cresaptown Eagles.
In addition to his mother; he is survived his brother, Mark E. Alderton and wife Rhonda, Cumberland; sister-in law, Sally Alderton, Stephens City, Va.; nieces and nephews, Michael Alderton and wife Lacey, Megan Hirsch and husband Nathan, Laura Immler and husband Michael, Charlie Welsh and Tiffani, Randy Welsh, Sean Welsh, and Shayna; great-nieces and nephews, Layla, Larissa, Mikayla, Camden, Morgan, Caleb, Sheldon, Shane, and Summer.
Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Avenue, Cumberland, on Sunday, Dec. 3, 2017 from 3 to 6 p.m. Christian Wake service will be conducted at the funeral on Sunday at 5 p.m. at the funeral home.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, Dec. 4, 2017 at 11 a.m. at St. Mary Catholic Church, 300 E Oldtown Road, Cumberland. Burial will take place at St. Mary's Cemetery.
