Edna M. (Wilson) Lowery, 103, of Ellerslie, went to be with the Lord Dec. 11, 2017, at Cumberland Health Care.
Born Jan. 21, 1914 in Mill Way, Pa., she was a daughter of the late Worth and Ellen V. (Newman) Wilson. She married Alden H. Lowery on Jan. 30, 1931. They were fortunate to celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary on Jan. 30, 1981 prior to his passing on July 16, 1981. She is also preceded in death by sons, Army Major Richard H. Lowery, who was killed in Vietnam making her a Gold Star Mother and his wife Margaret Lowery Helmstetter, John A. Lowery; sister, Ruth (Wilson) Myers and husband Carl.
Survived by a son, Donald W. Lowery and wife Myrna of Ellerslie; a daughter-in-law, Sue Ann Lowery of Georgia; nine grandchildren, Eva Marie (Vic) Gordon, Richard Lowery Jr., Daniel (Peggy) Lowery, Theresa (Matt) Logsdon, Jeff (Marcella) Lowery, Steve (Tonya) Lowery, Joe (Jennifer) Lowery, Chris Lowery, Carol (Scott) Falso; 23 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren. Also survived by special nieces, Ella Grace (Merle) See, Gay Powell and families; and Edna's longtime friend and faithful visitor, Sophia Powell.
Edna was a longtime resident of Ellerslie. She joined the Ellerslie Methodist Church in August of 1926 and transferred by letter to the E.U.B. Church in 1935 which later merged to form the Ellerslie United Methodist Church. Edna has been a member for 91 years and at the age of 103 was the oldest member. She formerly worked at the Celanese Corp and then was a homemaker until she went to work at the former Ellerslie Elementary School serving lunches. From 1971-1988 she worked in the cafeteria at the Cash Valley Elementary School.
Services will private at the convenience of the family.
