Eleanor's Story

Eleanor L. Schaefer, 93, of Savannah, Ga., died Thursday, Sept. 14, 2017.
Born May 22, 1924, in Ransom, Pa., she was the daughter of the late John and Alice (Stanton) Lucas. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Mark L. Schaefer, and one brother, John Lucas Jr.
Mrs. Schaefer was a graduate of Dalton High School, Dalton, Pa., and attended vocational school in Scranton, Pa. With seven others from school, they travelled to Washington, DC, during World War II. There she worked at Andrews Air Force Base as a supply clerk and assembled aircraft engines during the war. While there she met and married her husband, Mark L. Schaefer, an Air Force officer at the base.
She was a member of the Christ Lutheran Church and a homemaker.
She is survived by two nieces, Becky Rant, Warrenton, Va., Nan VanFleet, Douglassville, Pa.; six grand-nieces; two grand-nephews and one sister-in-law, Audrey Kinsinger and son, Tim, Grantsville.
The family would like to give their appreciation to the caring individuals at Savannah Square Health Center who took care of her and to St. Luke Missionary Hospice for their loving care in her final days.
A graveside service will be held at the Grantsville Cemetery on Wednesday, Sept. 20, 2017, at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Ingrid Chenoweth officiating.
