Eleanor Rose Smith


CARPENDALE, W.Va. - Eleanor Rose (Riggleman) Smith, 89, of Carpendale, died Saturday, May 11, 2019, at the Western Maryland Regional Medical Center.
Born Aug. 25, 1929, in Petersburg, she was the daughter of the late Phillip and Elsie (Barr) Riggleman.
She was also preceded in death by her husband, Harry John Smith Jr.; her sister Mary Frye; and brothers-in-law, Richard Lueck and Robert "Bub" Frye.
Eleanor was a graduate of Ridgeley High School and also attended Catherman's Business School.
She had been a secretary for the Army Corps of Engineers in Washington, D.C. Later she was a secretary for the Prince George's County Board of Education, serving at Woodridge Elementary School.
Eleanor was a member of Holy Cross United Methodist Church, where she
belonged to the United Methodist Women. She also enjoyed the activities of the Merry Widows.
Survivors include her three children, Alison Smith, Charles Town, Cyndi Romeo and husband, Mike, Westminster, and Roger Smith and wife, Patti, Glenwood; grandchildren, Catherine Shipley and husband, Steven, Matthew Romeo and wife, Angela, Michele Romeo, Emily Kablis and husband, Patrick, Adam Smith and wife, Sarah, Tyler Smith, and Jake Smith; great-grandchildren, Kincade and Kinleigh Shipley, Amelia Romeo, Nolan, Declan and Eleanor Kablis, and Cassidy Smith; one sister, Marie Lueck; one brother, Thomas Riggleman and wife, Joyce; and, several nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received at the Upchurch Funeral Home, P.A., 202 Greene St., Cumberland, on Thursday from 5-8 p.m.
The funeral service will be held on Friday at 1 p.m. in the funeral home, with Pastor Ken Hamilton, officiating.
Interment will be in Rocky Gap Veterans Cemetery.
