Elissa's Story

Text size

SHORT GAP, W.Va. Compassionate, accepting, selfless, beaming, beautiful, hilarious, empathetic. These words just scratch the surface when describing our mother, Elissa High. She loved fiercely and was adored by all who met her. On Sunday, May 14, 2017, she accepted an invitation to dance on streets of gold with her father, Richard E Twigg, and her mother, Alma Twigg Fisher. Mom, being one to never decline a dance party, didn't make an exception this time either.
We will miss our bonfires, family get togethers, and road trips with spontaneous break outs in song which was inevitable with her kiddos, Nathan and Kendra High, who blessed her with two granddaughters, Adera and Zayah; Tabitha High and husband-in-the running, Sean O'Hara, and Samantha and Christopher Benson, who blessed her with two more grand babies, Blake and Luna.
Whether Mom was relaxing on a cruise and traveling with her sister and brother-in-law, Carolyn and Linwood Briggs, driving to Florida crammed in a van with seven others, nursing her patients in the Allegany Health System, or admiring the graffiti in a New York subway, she always appreciated every experience brought into her life. This included her ex-husband, Gregory High, who held a special place in her heart, even if it was simply the pure joy of rolling her eyes at him.
Diagnosed on her birthday, March 3, 2017, with metastatic breast cancer, she stayed positive and strong in the comfort of her unshakable faith in God and unrelenting love of her family and friends who were by her side every step of the way.
We find peace in knowing that although she no longer is physically here with us, her story continues in every life that she touched.
