CUMBERLAND - Ellsworth Thomas Groves, 79, of Cumberland, passed away Monday, March 5, 2018, at his home.
Born July 16, 1938, in Cumberland, Mr. Groves was the son of the late Howard Thomas Groves and Eva Marie (Ingram) Groves. He was also preceded in death by his beautiful wife, Elizabeth V. "Skeeter" Groves; two brothers, Clifford "Buster" and Charles "Ed" Groves; two sisters, Margaret M. Swick and Helen Groves; his son-in-law, Ricky Metty; and two grandchildren, Hank and Charlie Groves.
Ellsworth retired from Brock Scrap and Steel with 35 years of services. He was formerly employed with the Western Maryland Railroad. Ellsworth was a member of the Souls Harbor Ministries and a lifetime member of the Piney Mountain Sportsmen's Club. He enjoyed lots of things but nothing more than being with his family.
Ellsworth is survived by his children, Helen Thomas and husband, Gene, Somerset, Pa., Thomas Groves and wife, Sheila, Brenda Lease and husband, Ed, all of Cumberland, Lisa Reeder and husband, Phil, Baltimore, Ellsworth Groves Jr., and Cathy Saville, Oldtown. He also leaves behind his brothers, Junior Groves, Donald Groves, Dennis Groves; his sister, Evelyn Sisk; nine grandchildren; 26 great grandchildren; and dear friends, Butch Reckley and Linda Miller.
Friends will be received at the Adams Family Funeral Home, P.A., 404 Decatur St., Cumberland, (www.AdamsFamilyFuneralHome.com) on Thursday, March 8, 2018, from 6 to 9 p.m.
A funeral service will be conducted at the funeral home on Friday, March 9, 2018, at 11 a.m. with Reverend Betty Kennedy officiating.
Interment will be in Davis Memorial Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Michael Metty, Edward Lease Jr., Willie Groves, Clifford Groves, Michael Metty Jr., Michael Hochard, and Eddie Lease III.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the Western Maryland Hospice Program and the Dialysis Unit for all the love and support they showed our family.
