CUMBERLAND - Eugene "Gene" Sewell, 91, of Cumberland, passed away Tuesday, Oct. 31, 2017, at the Western Maryland Regional Medical Center.
Born Nov. 6, 1925, in Lonaconing, Mr. Sewell was the son of the late Eugene Copeland Sewell and Elizabeth (Craner) Sewell. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Genvieve R. (Weaver) Sewell, 2001; a sister, Mary Lou Comer; and a brother-in-law, A.O. Comer.
A graduate of Ridgeley High School, class of 1942, Gene was a United States Naval Veteran of World War II in the Pacific on a Destroyer Escort Group and retired from U.S.P.S. as a city letter carrier. He previously attended the First Baptist Church. Gene was a member of the "DE" Sailors Group and the Ridgeley V.F.W. Post 6452.
Gene is survived by his son, Don Sewell and wife, Ruth, Wooster, Ohio; his granddaughter, Alexandra Lowry and husband, Kevin, Wooster; his great grandchildren, Estella and Hawthorn Lowry; and his step grandchildren, A.R. Burns, III, Ian N. Burns and his daughter, Raina Burns-White.
No services are planned at this time. Interment will be in the Maryland State Veterans Cemetery at Rocky Gap.
