Eugene's Story

CARPENDALE, W.Va. Eugene R. Wright Sr., 92, of Carpendale, died Thursday, July 20, 2017, at the Western Maryland Regional Medical Center.
Born July 22, 1924, in Barrelville, he was the son of the late Henry A. Wright and Clara B. (Shaffer) Wright.
He was also preceded in death by a grandson, Anthony "Tony" Lewis; a great-grandson, Chevin Resh; and a sister, Arlene Wright.
A World War II veteran, Mr. Wright served in the U.S. Army, 202nd. Combat Engineers Battalion. He earned a Purple Heart and four Bronze Stars.
Mr. Wright belonged to William E. Shuck Jr. Memorial Post 136, American Legion and Fort Ashby Post 6667, V.F.W.
He is survived by his children, Eugene "Gene" R. Wright Jr. and wife, Patty, Barton, Carol Lewis and husband, Russ, Fort Ashby, and Johia Lloyd, Frostburg; grandchildren, Martina Miller, Kandi Resh, Chanda Lewis, Tristan Lewis, Paul Wright, Eugene "Rick" Wright, Frank Lloyd Jr., Nakia Gilman, and Justin Gilman; great-grandchildren, Chavelle Resh, Trevor Lloyd, Ryan Lloyd, Brittnie Gilman, Skylyn Gilman, and Anthany Gilman; great-great-granddaughter, Azelle Resh; three siblings, brother and best friend, Roert Wright and wife, Betty, Carpendale, Clarence Wright, Naugatuck, Conn., and Shirley Hink and husband, Andrews, Ocala, Fla.; and a dear friend, Larry Parsons.
Friends wil be received at the Upchurch Funeral Home, P.A., 202 Greene St., Cumberland, on Sunday, July 24, 2017, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m.
The funeral service will be conducted on Monday, July 25, 2017, at 11 a.m. in the funeral home.
Interment will be in Maryland State Veterans Cemetery at Rocky Gap, where military honors will be accorded by Fort Cumberland Post 13 Honor Guard.
