Evelyn Rae Hodgdon, 92, of LaVale, ascended into heaven and into the loving embrace of the Lord on Sunday, Oct. 15, 2017, where she was met by her loving husband, Kendrick Yale Hodgdon, and her parents, John Raymond and Phyllis Blanche Frankfort. She passed away in her home surrounded by her loving family.
Born on Dec. 14, 1924, Evelyn lived her entire life in the Cumberland area. A 1942 graduate of Allegany High School, she was employed by the Celanese Fibers Corporation of America for many years. She also was employed by the Celanese Credit Union. After retiring in 1981, Evelyn was called back to work by Celanese to assist with the closing of the plant as an insurance coordinator.
Her hobbies included bird watching, toll painting, ceramics, and travel. She also enjoyed the many cats she sheltered throughout her long life and volunteering for LMC Food Pantry, delivering food baskets with her husband, Ken.
Evelyn is survived by her three children, Cynthia Graham, Lance Hodgdon, and Robin Swandol; her five grandchildren, Derrick and Dustin Swandol, Noelle Hodgdon, Heather Hatch, and Kendra Hodgdon; and her three great-grandchildren, Raylan Swandol, Caleb Hatch, and Layla Swandol.
She was a loyal member of Kingsley United Methodist Church and LaVale United Methodist Church where she worshipped and served our Lord.
Friends will be received at Adams Family Funeral Home P.A., 404 Decatur St., Cumberland (www.AdamsFamilyFuneralHome.com), on Wednesday, Oct. 18, 2017, at 11 a.m., followed by services at noon with the Rev. Frankie Revell officiating.
Interment will be in Hillcrest Memorial Park immediately after the services.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to LaVale United Methodist Church. Also, in honor of her love for cats, the family hopes that friends will consider donations to Ark of Hope Rescue of Oldtown or Windy Pines Rescues Inc. of Frostburg.
The family would like to give special thanks to the hospice program and the many fine nurses who came out to help the family during their time of need. They would also like to express their gratitude to caretakers, Susie, Bev, Amanda, and Dawn.
