CUMBERLAND Foleda A. Tusing Peer Helmick, 93, Oak St., Cumberland, died on Wednesday, Jan. 3, 2018, at St. Vincent De Paul Nursing Home.
Born Feb. 12, 1924, in Wiley Ford, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late the Rev. David W. Tusing and Mary Emsey (Ruckman) Tusing. Her first husband, Howard "Dick" Peer died in July 1983. Also preceding her in death was her second husband, Andrew E. "Ellie" Helmick on June 16, 2003. As well as four sisters, Hester Teeter, Cumberland, Treva Mullin, Big Pool, Vera A. Hott, Cumberland, and Naomi Aquallo, Cumberland.
She was a member of the Wiley Ford Church of the Brethren, and a member of the Women's Fellowship and served as their president for 18 years. She was also a member of Wiley Ford Senior Citizens and the Disabled American Veterans Auxiliary. Over the years, her places of employment included McCrory's, Ben Franklin's, Cumberland Cloak & Suit, and Garrett's on Virginia Avenue. Foleda also served as a judge on election polls for 16 years. Foleda enjoyed participating in church activities, church camp, and traveling. She spent hours studying her Bible and sharing her faith with others.
She is survived by a son, Howard O. Peer and wife, Sandy, Short Gap; daughter, Sharon A. Malone and husband, Galen, Finzel; sister, Opal Hall, Rockville; six grandchildren, John Peer and wife, Tracie, Rising Sun, Marsha Kiel and husband, Brian, Mt. Carmel, Ill., Billie Wheeler and husband, Gary, Hagerstown, Steven Malone, Cumberland, Stacey Malone, Finzel, and Tonya Layman and husband, Jason, Ridgeley, W.Va.; great-grandchildren, Heather and husband, Steve, Logan, Alexis, Ethan, Isabelle, Ryan, Danielle, and Sophie; great-great-grandchildren, Devony, Kylee, Aubrey, and M.J.; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
A special thanks to the aids and nurses who showed her extra love and compassion.
Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Ave., Cumberland, on Sunday, Jan. 7, 2018, from 3 to 6 p.m.
A funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Monday, Jan. 8, 2018, at 1:30 p.m. with Pastor Daniel Agnew officiating.
Burial will follow at Restlawn Memorial Gardens, Cash Valley Road.
