ELKINS, W.Va. Frank U. Starkey Sr., 86, of Hershey Hollow Road, Keyser, died Wednesday, Oct. 18, 2017, at Valentine's Personal Care Home in Elkins, while under the care of WV Caring Hospice.
Born on March 29, 1931, at Mt. Iron, Minn., he was a son of the late Frank Henry and Lianda Ann (Merritt) Starkey. He also was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth E. "Boots" (Potter) Starkey on July 28, 1996; his companion, Linda Householder; a brother, Bruce Starkey and two sisters, Rocelle and Colleen Starkey.
Mr. Starkey was retired as the owner and operator of the former Starkey and Son Disposal in Keyser, and for many years, drove truck for various private companies. He served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict and was a member of the Rees Chapel United Methodist Church in New Creek. He also was a lifetime member of the New Creek Volunteer Fire Department, the West Virginia State Fireman's Association and the Burlington Ruritan Club.
Surviving are his children, Frank U. Starkey of Zim, Minn., Edward Starkey and wife, Karen of New Creek, Ruth Ann Alkire and husband, J.D. of Parsons, Kathy Keyes and husband, Gene of Mission, Texas, Mary Bryan of Keyser and Joy Lloyd of Louisa, Va.; five sisters, Rita Flannigan and husband, Gene of Zim, Lianda L. Janasky and husband, Mike of San Diego, Calif., Sherry Carlson of Biwabiak, Minn., Sheila Leino and husband, Stan of Minneapolis, Minn. and Fawndalene Udovich of Zim; 15 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, four nieces and six nephews.
Friends may call at the Smith Funeral Home, Keyser Chapel, on Saturday, Oct. 21, 2017, from 9 to 11 a.m.
Funeral services will be conducted at the funeral home immediately following the visitation at 11 a.m. with Pastor Randy Crowe officiating.
Interment will be in the Ebenezer Cemetery, Romney.
