Frederick's Story

Frederick Earl Clawson, 76, of Cumberland, passed away on Friday, Oct. 20, 2017, at Western Maryland Regional Medical Center.
Born in Johnstown, Pa., he was the son of Elizabeth Jane (Seivers) Clawson and the late Clyde D. Clawson. In addition to his father, he was also preceded in death by his wife of 49 years, Carol Jean (Geisel) Clawson; also a sister, Betty Jane Evans; and a brother, Kenneth Clawson.
Fred was a graduate of the Greater Johnstown High School. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1959 to 1962. He was a retired signal foreman for CSX. He held many office positons with the Brotherhood of the Signalmen's Union. He was an active member of Central Assembly of God, singing in choir, attending weekly prayer meetings and helping to make Easter eggs. Known as "the candy man," he loved handing out candy while shaking your hand.
Besides his mother, he is survived by two sons, Stephen and Frederick, both of Cumberland; three brothers, Clyde Clawson and wife, Sally, Robert Clawson and wife, "Dot," and John Clawson and wife, Linda, all of Johnstown; one sister, Emily Hinton and husband, Dewey, Illinois; one brother-in-law, Robert Evans, Johnstown; one sister-in-law, Patsy Clawson, Ziegler, Ill.; as well as many nieces and nephews.
Family will receive friends on Saturday, Oct. 28, 2017, from 10 a.m. until noon at Central Assembly of God, 2020 Bedford Road, Cumberland.
There will be a funeral service following visitation with Pastor Doug Seaman officiating. Military honors will be accorded at the church by Fort Cumberland Post 13 Honor Guard.
Burial will be on Monday, Oct. 30, 2017, in the Maryland State Veterans Cemetery at Rocky Gap.
