Gary's Story

Gary Bryce Blocher, 80, of Salisbury, Pa., died Monday, May 29, 2017, at UPMC East, Monroeville.
Born Oct. 12, 1936, in Meyersdale, he was the son of the late Roy and Mildred (Wagner) Blocher. He was preceded in death by his wife, Frances (Weimer) Blocher, Nov. 27, 2012.
Mr. Blocher was the owner/operator of Blocher Farm Service since 1964. Gary attended Penn State and Williamsport Technical School before returning home to start a construction company, tractor sale and repair shop and to eventually run the family farm. His vast engineering and mechanical knowledge was an asset to the farm and his business. Gary and his late wife, Frances, expanded the maple operation from a side line income of the farm to the mainstay that it is today. He was well-respected in the maple industry. For many years, he served on the Maple Producers board as director, president and vice-president. He held the Pennsylvania Maple King title six times and was a fourth generation producer.
Gary was an avid outdoors man who especially loved archery and fishing. His great love was his dogs.
Surviving is a son, Jason A. Blocher and wife, Melissa, Salisbury; an aunt, Billy Sue Blocher, Atlanta, Ga.; three sisters-in-law, Elizabeth Rogers, Port Bolivar, Texas, Margaret Robison and Annette Lashley, both of Mount Savage; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Friends will be received at the Newman Funeral Home, Inc., 9168 Mason-Dixon Highway, Salisbury, on Friday, June 2, 2017, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted in the funeral home, Saturday, June 3, 2017, at 11 a.m. with Pastor Mardiann Vincent officiating.
Interment will be in St. Patrick Cemetery, Mount Savage.
