RIDGELEY, W.Va. Gary Dennis "Bucky" Butts, 77, of Ridgeley and Middleburg, Fla., died Saturday, Dec. 24, 2017, at his home in Middleburg following a 6 month battle with cancer.
Born on Aug. 11, 1940, he was the son of the late Paul Butts and Olivia (Merritt) Butts.
Raised in Cumberland, "Bucky" also resided in resided Ridgeley, and Middleburg through the Winter. He was a 1958 graduate of Fort Hill High School, going on to join the Army. He then went to work for UPS until he opened "My Place" in 1974 with his longtime friend, Jerry Young. An avid golfer, Bucky was a longtime member of the Cumberland Country Club. He was also a member of the Goodfellowship Club.
Surviving is his daughter, Kelly Hymes and husband Bill, daughter Marcy Dearcangelis and husband, Nick, son, Gary Butts, son, Chris Butts, son, Brian Butts and Fiancé, Beata Ignaszewska, son, Lyle Butts and daughter, Taylor Butts. Grandchildren, G Payne Turner, Aerianna Butts, Gracen Butts, Nick Butts, Jack Butts and Olivia Butts. His sister, Paula McIntosh and husband Joe; cousin and dear friend, Buddy Butts and wife, Joyce; several nieces and nephews and an overwhelming number of friends.
His wish was to be cremated. There will be a visitation at Scarpelli Funeral Home,P.A., 108 Virginia Ave , Cumberland, on Saturday, Jan. 6, 2018, from 2 until 4 p.m.
A memorial service will follow with Pastor Bruce McBride officiating at 4 p.m.
The family would like to thank Dr. Zaman, Dr. Watkins and all the staff at WMHS and the Schwab Cancer center for the exemplary care given to their father during his illness.
