Gary's Story

Gary Clifton Nixon, 75, of Oldtown, passed away Sunday, Aug. 6, 2017, at his home.
Born July 3, 1942, in Cumberland, Mr. Nixon was the son of the late Clifton Columbus Nixon and Thelma Grace (Haugh) Nixon. He was also preceded in death by a son, Joseph W. Nixon.
A graduate of Oldtown High School, Gary attended the Technical School in McKeesport, Pa. He worked in Chicago for a few years and then transferred to Washington, D.C. After that, he opened Action Automotive, Alexandria, Va., that he owned and operated for 45 years. After retirement, Gary and his wife, Rosa, started the company, R&G Enterprises, continued for nine years, and then fully retired. He was a member of the Kingdom Victory Church and the National Rifle Association.
Gary is survived by his wife of 12 years, Rosa J. Nixon; his sons, Matthew Nixon and wife, Susan, and Brandon Nixon and wife, Ashlee; and his stepsons, Robert Shrout and wife, Amanda, and William Shrout Jr. and wife, Carla. He also leaves behind his brother, Lonnie Nixon; his niece, Sierra Nixon; his best friend, Steve Nixon; as well as seven grandchildren.
Friends will be received at the Adams Family Funeral Home, P.A., 404 Decatur St., Cumberland, (www.AdamsFamilyFuneralHome.com) on Wednesday, Aug. 9, 2017, from 6 to 8 p.m.
A funeral service will be conducted at the funeral home on Thursday, Aug. 10, 2017, at 11 a.m., with Pastor Rodney Rhodes officiating, assisted by William Shrout Jr.
Interment will be in Oldtown United Methodist Church Cemetery.
