Gary's Story

LAVALE - Gary Linwood Robinette, 68, of LaVale, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 25, 2017, at the Western Maryland Regional Medical Center after a courageous battle with cancer.
Born Feb. 6, 1949, in Cumberland, Mr. Robinette was the son of the late Linwood Lester Robinette and Lois Maxine (Snyder) Robinette. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family.
A graduate of Allegany High School, class of 1967, Gary was a United States Coast Guard Veteran during the Vietnam Era. He retired from CSX Railroad with 33 years of service as a conductor and also served as a mentor to new hires for several years. Gary was referred to as "Iron Man" at work because he never missed a day. He was Methodist by faith. Gary was a life member of the Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 172 and a member of the Rocky Gap Golf Course. He was an avid golfer. Gary was incredibly loyal and devoted to his family and friends and brought much laughter into their lives. Gary never met a stranger and had many "Peeps."
Gary is survived by his wife of 48 years, Carolyn (Bridges) Robinette; his daughter, Raegan (Robinette) Hawk, LaVale; and his son, Adam Robinette and wife, Kristin, Cumberland. He also leaves behind his grandchildren, Liam, Duncan, and Cyrus Robinette; his cousins, Russell and Jeffrey Snyder; his aunt, Billie Jean Snyder; his canine companions, Stella and Bodhi; as well as numerous close friends.
A Celebration of Gary's Life will be held at the LaVale United Methodist Church on Saturday, Nov. 11, 2017, at noon with the Reverend Frankie Revell officiating.
The family would like to give a special thank you to all the staff at 7-South for the care and compassion given to everyone. They were absolutely wonderful.
