Geneva Grace Gulick Collins, 93, of Romney, W.Va., died peacefully at Dawn View Center Sunday evening, Feb. 25, 2018.
Geneva is the daughter of the late Howard Edward Gulick and Grace Pearl Blackburn Gulick. Predeceasing her are her husband of 42 years, Ralph W. Collins; a son, Ralph E. Collins; a daughter, Sandra K. Collins; two grandchildren; four brothers and three sisters.
She is survived by her son, Daniel W. Collins of Winchester, Va.; three daughters, Mary Jane Hott of Romney, Margaret Ann Watts of Winchester, and Debra L. Livengood of Martinsburg; 13 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
Geneva was born and raised in Green Spring, W.Va., marrying Ralph in 1942. They started their family soon after and lived in Allegany, Mineral and Hampshire counties. Geneva enjoyed being a wife and mother and didn't pursue a career until long after her family was grown. She worked in Romney for the Committee on Aging and enjoyed going to the homes of those who needed her skills and help. When Ralph became ill, she retired to take care of him and did so until his death.
The next 20 or so years found her in Springfield where she enjoyed her retirement. She found pleasure in crocheting, puzzles, travel (she was ready to go at a moment's notice) and spent much time helping to raise her grandchildren. As time marched on, it was decided the best thing would be for Geneva to move to Romney to live with her daughter, Jane. In 2014 Geneva suffered a stroke and could no longer be left alone, and she moved to Dawn View Center, Fort Ashby. Geneva was a member of Springfield United Methodist Church for most of her life and will be remembered as a quiet, soft-spoken woman with an easy smile and one who could stand her own ground. She leaves behind a loving family that will deeply miss her.
