Gerald "Jud" Delano Ware Sr., 83, of Bedford, departed from this earth to his eternal heavenly home with his Lord and Saviour on Thursday, Dec. 14, 2017.
He passed away quietly in the arms of his loving wife at their home, following complications of pulmonary fibrosis. They would have celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on Sunday, Dec. 24, 2017.
Born on Aug. 18, 1934, he was the son of the late Samuel and Margaret Ware. Jud was preceded in death by sisters, Eleanor Smith and Dora Shipley; brothers, Robert and Samuel Ware; and one grandson, Benjamin Vaughan.
e was a faithful member of Cumberland Bible Church for 47 years. His favorite Bible verse was Isaiah 40:31, "They that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength. They shall mount up with wings like eagles. They shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint."
A veteran of the U.S. Air Force, he served two years in Japan as an instrument specialist. He retired from Pittsburgh Plate Glass Company after working 36 years at the Cumberland and Creighton/Ford City plants. His favorite pastimes included fishing and hunting with his son and friends. But above all, he loved his family. His witty personality would bring a smile to all.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Wilma (Stump) Ware; six children, Pam Resh and husband, Bill, Penny Vaughan and husband, Mike, Jerry Ware and wife, Denise, Jodi Engle and husband, Dave, Krista Spangler and husband, Gary, and Karla Collins and husband, Todd. Also surviving are his faithful brother and best friend, Gale Ware, and sisters, Thelma Larry, Eva Heinrich, and Patsy Stickel.
He was blessed with 12 grandchildren, Shaun Resh, Erin Pendergast, Jason Vaughan, Nikki Strother, Katie Glenn, Chloe and Patrick Ware, D.J. Engle, Cassie and Cody Weese, Rachel Bauman, and Michael Collins.
Also surviving are 16 great-grandchildren, Zoe, Layla, Jackson, Jameson, Jacob, Caden, Ethan, Liam, Manny, Caleb, Sarina, Lydia, Sydney, Sam, Charlie, Ezekial Jud, and another coming in June.
Jud's body is being donated to the Anatomy Board of Science in hopes to help find a cure for pulmonary fibrosis.
Memorial services will be held on Friday, Dec. 29, 2017, at 6 p.m. at Cumberland Bible Church, 400 East 3rd St., Cumberland, MD 21502.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Cumberland Bible Church.
