Gladys Elenor Baker Gladys Elenor (Easton) Baker, 95, of Cumberland, passed away on Friday, March 8, 2019 at Ruby Memorial Hospital, Morgantown W.Va.
Born Aug. 4, 1923, in Westernport, Mrs. Baker was the daughter of the late Louis Samuel Easton and Gracie Mae (Dawson) Easton. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Jesse H. Baker; a daughter, Carol Sue Brant; a granddaughter, Jessica Stevens; and a special friend, Wilbur George.
Gladys was a 1941 graduate of Bruce High School. She worked as a secretary for St. Luke's Lutheran Church for 23 years. She was co-founder of the Mother's Club at Columbia Street Elementary School, she was also a Brownie Scout Leader and Sunday School Teacher.
She was a charter member of the Maryland State Bowling Association where she served on the board of directors for 11 terms, as well as Vice-President for 12 terms and President for 2 terms and was inducted into the Maryland State Hall of Fame. She helped form the Maryland 600 Club, where she served as President and she won the Maryland State Seniors Tournament. Gladys was a life member of the Western Maryland Womens' Bowling Association.
Gladys attended Fairview Avenue United Methodist Church and was a member of the Cresaptown Eagles Aerie #2883 also serving as secretary of the Ladies Auxiliary.
Gladys is survived by her son, George Baker and wife Helen; her daughters, Patricia Warner, Pamela Brant, and Janice Mercer; her brother, Lewis Easton; as well as 14 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and 3 great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her godchild, Tammy Hickle; and "adopted" daughters, Linda Bauer, Debbie Mohler, and Beverly Warnick.
Friends will be received at the Adams Family Funeral Home, P.A., 404 Decatur Street, Cumberland, MD, ( on Tuesday, March 12, 2019, from 6 to 8 p.m.
A funeral service will be conducted at the funeral home on Wednesday, March 13, 2019, at 11a.m., with the Reverend Dan Taylor officiating.
Interment will be in Hillcrest Memorial Park.
Pallbearers will be her grandchildren: Jeffrey Hatison, Carl Brant, Eric Mercer, Chad Baker and Rick Baker; and a grandson-in-law: Donnie Ketrow.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made in her name to Fairview Avenue United Methodist Church, 640 Fairview Avenue, Cumberland, MD 21502

Aunt Gladys was always so warm & welcoming, regardless of how many years went between our visits. A lovely woman who will be missed; who is probably carrying on with these other two beautiful souls. Love and sympathy to the family and all her friends.
