ALTAVISTA, Va. - Goldie Pearl (Blubaugh) Spencer, 95, of Altavista, formerly of Bedford, Pa., passed away Wednesday, June 5, 2019, at Autumn Care Nursing Home, Altavista.
Born April 16, 1924, in Cumberland, Mrs. Spencer was the daughter of the late Thomas William Blubaugh and Viola Belle (Clites) Blubaugh. She was also preceded in death by her husband, John "Bert" K. Spencer Sr.; a special niece whom she raised, Wanda (Leasure) Beard and husband, Richard; as well as her brothers and sisters, Stella Shoap, Ida "Sis" Saville, Leota "Toad" Cook, Bernice "Red" Cross, Thomas "Sonny" Blubaugh, and Betty Miller. Goldie was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Goldie retired from the Kelly Springfield Tire Company in 1981 with 37 years of service where she was active with the United Rubbermaker's Union. She was a member of the former Elliott Memorial United Methodist Church and later was a part of the Centenary United Methodist Church. Goldie attended the Central Baptist Church of Altavista. She regularly attended the Senior Citizens Center in Centerville, Pa. Goldie liked to read, do puzzles and enjoyed spending time with her family. She enjoyed sending cards out and was part of the Sunshine Committee at Elliott Memorial. In her earlier years, Goldie enjoyed hunting with her brother and sisters and telling stories of their adventures. She enjoyed traveling with her husband, Bert, and sharing these experiences with their son. They enjoyed sitting at the kitchen table which became the center for neighborhood conversations.
Goldie is survived by her son, John Spencer Jr., and wife, Debra; her granddaughter, Brooke Louise Spencer; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Friends will be received at Adams Family Funeral Home, P.A, 404 Decatur St., Cumberland, (www.adamsfamilyfuneralhome.com) on Sunday, June 9, 2019, from 2 to 5 p.m.
A funeral service will be conducted at the funeral home on Monday, June 10, 2019, at 11 a.m. with Reverend William "Bill" Miller officiating. The family will also receive friends one hour prior to the service.
Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the church or charity of your choice.
