H.'s Story

CUMBERLAND H. May Resh, 75, of Cumberland, passed away on Christmas Day at her home.
Born in Cumberland, on March 19, 1942, she was the daughter of the late Tonie Lee and Elsia Mae (Lewis) Shaffer. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Charles W. Resh Jr.; grandson, Chevin Resh; sister, Margaret Anderson and husband, William; and brothers-in-law, William Kash and William Buchanan.
May was a graduate of South Hagerstown High School class of 1960. While in high school, she was a cheerleader, was and very active in many school activities. For many years, May was an administrative assistant at the Kelly Springfield Tire Company. She was a 50 year member of the Cresaptown United Methodist Church, and a charter member of the Cresaptown Eagles Auxiliary 2883. As a member of the Auxiliary, May served as president of the organization. She was also a member of the Kelly Girls, Order of the Eastern Star Mountain Star Chapter 15, and the Pythian Sisters Morning Star Chapter 1. As a member of the Pythian Sisters, May was the Past Most Excellent Chief, and she was the Past Grand Chief for the State of Maryland.
She is survived by her children, Charles W. "Billy" Resh III and wife, Brenda, Mercersburg, Pa., Robert A. Resh and wife, Linda, Shadyside, and Douglas L. Resh, with whom she resided; grandchildren, Nick, Joey, Justin, Lindsay, Britney, Chevelle and Charles William (Will) Rsh IV; four great-grandchildren; brothers, William Shaffer and wife, Carlotta, Cumberland, James Shaffer and wife, Barbara, Cresaptown, and Glen Shaffer and wife, Sheila, Cresaptown; sisters, Virginia Kash, Lebanon, Ohio, and Dora Jean Buchanan, LaVale.
Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 15205 McMullen Highway, SW, Cresaptown, on Friday, Dec. 29, 2017, from 4 to 7 p.m. The members of the Eagles Auxiliary will conduct their memorial service on Friday evening at 7 p.m. The Pythian Sisters will conduct their memorial service on Friday evening at 7:30 p.m. Both memorial services will be conducted at the funeral home.
A funeral service will be conducted at the funeral home on Saturday, Dec. 30, 2017, at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Harold R. McClay officiating.
Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Park.
Pallbearers will be William Buchanan Jr., Gary McKenzie, Jonathan McKenzie, James Shaffer Jr., Dave Wiechert, and Charles W. Resh IV.
The family would like to thank the staff of the Schwab Cancer Center, the staff of Dr. Yin's, and the Western Maryland Home Hospice - especially Morgan and Carrie for the kind, compassionate care they had given May during her illness.
In lieu of flowers, those wishing to honor May's memory may make contributions to the Grand Temple of Maryland Pythian Sisters c/o Joyce Dilks, 8394 William Drive, Frederick, MD 21704. These donations will be going to the Grand Project, "Acting Out for ALS" in memory of H. May Resh.
