CUMBERLAND Harold Franklin "Joe" Bowers, 75, of Cumberland, died Thursday, Aug. 3, 2017, at the Western Maryland Regional Medical Center.
Born Dec. 5, 1941, in Cumberland, he was the son of the late Joseph F. Bowers and Esta S. (Riggleman) Bowers.
He was also preceded in death by a son-in-law, Conda Smith Jr.; and two sisters-in-law, Georgia "Peach" Buchholtz and Judy Wilt.
Joe was a graduate of Ridgeley High School, class of 1960.
He had served in the U.S. Air Force from 1960-1966.
Mr. Bowers was a member of Carpenters Local 1024. Joe had his own company, Level Construction. He had worked for S & N Realty as a caretaker for 1 Frederick Street.
Joe was raised in Calvary United Methodist Church and belonged to William Shuck Jr. Memorial Post 136, American Legion.
Survivors include his wife, Nancy (Speis) Bowers; two daughters, Terri L. Smith Crawford and husband, Michael and Shawn Davis and husband, David; grandchildren, Ashley, Caleb, Jerid, Danielle, and Jaden; great-grandchildren, Brylen, Ryan, and Harper; a sister-in-law, Kathi Rinehart and husband, John; brothers-in-law, George Speis Jr. and wife, Karen, James Speis and wife, Sherry, Wayne Wilt, and William "Bill" Buchholtz and wife, Marti; and several nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received at the Upchurch Funeral Home, P.A., 202 Greene St., Cumberland, on Friday, Aug. 4, 2017, from 3 to 7 p.m.
The funeral service will be held on Saturday, Aug. 5, 2017, at 11 a.m. in the funeral home with Bishop George E. Speis Jr., officiating.
Interment will be in SS. Peter & Paul Cemetery, where military honors will be accorded by Fort Cumberland Post 13 Veterans Honor Guard.
Serving as pallbearers will be David Davis, Michael Crawford, Caleb Smith, Jerid David, Atticus Speis, Griffith Speis, and Terry Whorton Jr.
