Harry's Story

Harry Walter Grove Jr. passed away on Monday Jan. 8, 2018, at Western Maryland Regional Medical Center surrounded by his loved ones. He was born in Cumberland on Jan. 18, 1952, to the late Harry Sr. and Mary Bernadine (Boyle) Grove. Harry is survived by his loving wife of forty-three years, Patricia A. Grove; son Justin, wife Jessica; son Joshua, girlfriend Shaunna Lewis; and three beloved grandchildren, Raegan, Caedence, and Carter. He is also survived by a sister, Sharon Gero, and husband Richard; and their daughters, Lisa Mandell, husband Adam, and Lori Pfeiffer, husband Sean; Sister-in-law Linda Witt, husband Steven; brothers-in-law Mike Wilson, and Rick Wilson, wife Elizabeth; as well as numerous nieces and nephews, whom he loved dearly.
Harry was awarded a Master of Science, Psychology, from Frostburg State in 1980 and retired from the Department of Juvenile Services after over 30 years of employment. He was very dedicated to developing the youth in his community, serving as a coach of youth football and baseball for many years. He was an avid sports fan - he loved the Pittsburgh Steelers, "I guarantee ya!" - and was a competitive skill pool player for over 40 years. Harry was also a member of the Fraternal Order of the Eagles # 2883, and the Goodfellowship Club.
Harry will be sadly missed by many friends and family members, and will forever remain in their hearts and minds. "What we once enjoyed and deeply loved we can never lose, for all that we love deeply becomes part of us." - Helen Keller
Family will receive friends at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 15205 McMullen Hwy SW, Cresaptown, on Thursday, Jan. 11, 2018 from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m.
A funeral service will be conducted at the funeral home on Friday, Jan.12, 2018, at 11 a.m. with Fr. James Watson officiating.
Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting a donation to be made to Dapper Dan Little League in Harry's name.
Special thanks to the Western Maryland ICU staff for the excellent care provided to Harry, and the compassion shown to his family.
