CUMBERLAND - Harry Alvin Mallow, 83, of Valley Road, Cumberland, passed away Sunday, Aug. 20, 2017, at his home.
Born May 29, 1934, in Cumberland, Mr. Mallow was the son of the late Harry Mallow and Della (Johnson) Mallow. He was also preceded in death by a grandson, Ryan Diffenbaucher; and a sister, Rosalie Cowgill.
Harry attended Fort Hill High School and was a United States Army Veteran. He retired from the Kelly-Springfield Tire and Rubber Company in 1987, when the plant closed with 26 years of service. Harry was a member of the Queen City Lodge 131 A.F.&A.M., 32nd Degree, Cumberland. He was also a member of the Scottish Rite, Bodies and Algonquin Forest 140 and the Tall Cedars of Lebanon. Harry was a lifetime member of the Cumberland Outdoor Club and the Bowman's Addition Volunteer Fire Department. Harry was a beekeeper for 55 years having started the Allegany County Beekeepers Association of Cumberland. He was Past President of the Maryland State Beekeepers Association and a member of the Appalachian Beekeepers Association in Oakland.
Harry is survived by his wife of 41 years, Gay (Zimmerman) Mallow; his sons, Jason Mallow and wife, Laura, Cumberland, and Justin Mallow and wife, Heather, Frostburg; his daughter, Lisa Diffenbaucher and husband, Lynn, Cumberland; and his granddaughters, his pride and joy, Addison and Jossie Mallow. Also surviving him is his sisters, Twyla Payne and companion, Dale Hillegas, Cumberland, and Vada Williams, Martinsburg, W.Va.; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received at the Adams Family Funeral Home, P.A., 404 Decatur St., Cumberland, (www.AdamsFamilyFuneralHome.com) on Wednesday, Aug. 23, 2017, from 2 to 4 and from 6 to 8 p.m. The Queen City Lodge 131 A.F.&A.M., will conduct a member service at 7 p.m.
A funeral service will be conducted at the funeral home on Thursday, Aug. 24, 2017, at 1 p.m. with the Reverend David Dayhoff officiating.
Interment will be in Davis Memorial Cemetery.
The family would like to give a big thanks to Dr. Zaman and all the Hospice Workers for their excellent care, love, and support.
